Children's Medical Center Dallas plans to build a $21 million, 34,000-square-foot outpatient specialty center in Southlake, Texas, according to a report in the Dallas Morning News.

The center is expected to provide pediatric cardiology, gastroenterology, urology, sports medicine and imaging services, according to the report.

Construction of the center is a response to a population explosion in North Texas. The center is expected to open in summer 2011 with 54 staff and physicians but to grow to 82 staff and physicians within 18 months, according to the Morning News.

Earlier this month, Children's Medical Center opened a new 10-story, 100,000-square-foot tower on its main campus in Dallas.
