Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth, Wash., was robbed by hackers who broke into an electronic bank account and stole more than $1 million, according to a report by the Wenatchee World.
According to the report, the treasurer of Chelan County, which runs the hospital, noticed last week $1.03 million in unauthorized transactions that had been drawn from the public hospital's account and spread to 96 other bank accounts across the Midwest and East Coast. About $133,000 has been retrieved so far by notifying the receiving banks. It could take up to 30 days for full details to emerge on how much was stolen and can be recovered.
Cascade has a $13.2 million dollar budget, about $8 million of which is dedicated to salaries and benefits, according to the report.
