Spring cleaning: Mayo Clinic deals with dust, resumes surgeries

After canceling 30 to 40 surgeries last week due to a dust problem, Mayo Clinic Health System announced Thursday it is back on track to resume operations normally in the next two weeks, according to WXOW News.

Employees reported a layer of dust on the equipment in the sterile processing and distribution room, so Mayo stopped the line and tested equipment for microbes. The dust was coming from a deteriorating gasket on the light fixtures in the room.

Mayo replaced 120 lights, and isolated, sanitized and replaced equipment and supplies, according to the report. Mayo expects to perform 20 surgeries Friday, compared to just five to seven per day earlier in the week.
