Preventive Care Visits to Physician Offices on the Rise: 4 Statistics

Between 2001 to 2002 and 2009 to 2010, the percentage of physician office visits for which preventive care was the major reason for visit increased for family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology, according to The National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the report, preventive care visits:

•    Increased from around 15 percent to nearly 20 percent for family practice physicians
•    Increased from approximately 13 percent to nearly 20 percent for internal medicine physicians
•    Increased from roughly 35 percent to around 40 percent for for pediatric physicians
•    Increased from a little more than 60 percent to approximately 70 percent for obstetric and gynecologic physicians
