Patient Safety Tool: Universal ICU Decolonization for MRSA Reduction

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offer instructions for implementing universal decolonization in adult intensive care units to eliminate methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

 

The toolkit includes ICU decolonization protocol overview, a summary of scientific rationale behind the protocol and various appendices for decision-making, education, training and assessment during the decolonization process.

The protocol content was created by the REDUCE MRSA Trial Working Group, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, University of California Irvine and Hospital Corporation of America
