In a survey administered to healthcare workers at 44 neonatal intensive care units, reported burnout ranged from 7.5 percent to 54.4 percent, according to a study in BMJ Quality & Safety.

Physicians tended to report less burnout (15.1 percent on average) than non-physicians (26.9 percent on average). Additionally, NICUs reporting more burnout also reported lower perceptions of "teamwork climate," safety climate, job satisfaction, perceptions of management and working conditions.
