IU Health Saxony Hospital, a 42-bed hospital in Fishers, Ind., opened five years ago in the midst of healthcare reform. Today, the hospital has made a name for itself in orthopedics research, according to a Crain's report by Chris O'Malley.
Here are three things to know from the report.
1. IU Health Saxony plans to add a lab to research how patients walk prior to surgery.
2. The $100,000 lab, which is slated to open in 2017, will include a treadmill with numerous specialized sensors to examine walking style in scientific parameters, according to the report.
3. The lab is only one way IU Health Saxony is making a name for itself in orthopedics research. Crain's also reports the following accomplishments:
- The hospital does the largest volume of primary and revision hip and knee replacements among all IU Health facilities.
- The hospital offers low length-of-stay times for patients second only to Atlanta-based Emory St. Joseph's Hospital, the report notes.
