GOJO, the inventor of Purell, received the 2015 Champion of Change Award from Practice Greenhealth, recognizing its success in greening its internal operations and helping its customers achieve sustainable practices.
The Champion for Change Award is given to organizational partners that supply healthcare products and services that are considerate of the earth and its resources, according to a news release.
GOJO exceeded its 2015 sustainability goals, set in 2010, two years early. This resulted in a 50 percent reduction in water usage, a 46 percent reduction in generated solid waste and a 52 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
The company also has a sustainable end-of-life program for old soap and sanitizer dispensers, which involves recycling old dispensers. More than 20,000 used dispensers have been recycled, meaning 10 tons of waste have been diverted from landfills.
"At GOJO, we see sustainability as a journey requiring leadership, innovation and continuous improvement, and this award is a reflection of the progress we have made," said Nicole Koharik, GOJO global sustainability marketing director. "We will continue to innovate and lead the industry by developing products and policies that add sustainable value for all of our stakeholders."
