Ebola patient discharged from NIH in good condition

After being treated for nearly a month at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center Special Clinical Studies Unit in Bethesda, Md., the American healthcare worker transported from Sierra Leone with Ebola virus has been discharged in good condition.

The healthcare worker — who is no longer contagious to the community — was originally admitted to the NIH Clinical Center on March 13.

While the patient's identity has not been officially confirmed, it is known that he is a clinician for Boston-based global health organization Partners in Health. PIH released a statement, saying they were "heartened" by the news of the clinician's release from the hospital and improving health.

NIH Clinical Center's SCSU is designed with high-level isolation capabilities and has a staff of infectious disease and critical care specialists. The hospital is one of the nation's 55 recognized as an Ebola treatment center by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
