CDC lifts Zika travel guidance for Miami-Dade County

With no new cases of locally acquired Zika detected in Miami-Dade County for more than 45 days, the CDC lifted its "cautionary" designation from the county, thereby removing travel recommendations pertaining to the transmission of Zika virus in the area.

The CDC previously recommended pregnant women avoid traveling to areas designated as cautionary to prevent the potential spread of Zika. However, the agency is still encouraging men and women who live in or plan to travel to Miami-Dade County to take precautions against contracting mosquito-borne illness.

"Although we do not know the level of risk of Zika virus transmission after a yellow area designation is lifted, it is likely to be low. However, sporadic cases may still occur," said the agency in a release.

The Florida Department of Health has reported 285 cases of locally acquired Zika for 2016.
