Cases of rare respiratory virus confirmed in 27 states

The respiratory virus known as EV-D68 has made its way through more than half the country, as there are now lab-confirmed infections in 27 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

From mid-August to Sept. 22, 175 people have been stricken with a respiratory illness confirmed to be caused by EV-D68, a type of enterovirus. This strain of enterovirus is less common than others and has caused many children to be hospitalized with difficulty breathing.

States with confirmed cases of illness caused by EV-D68 are: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.
