Capella University extends FlexPath program offerings with approval from the Higher Learning Commission

Capella University is proud to announce beginning July 10 its Master of Education in Teaching and Learning and select Master of Science in Nursing specializations will be available via FlexPath – the groundbreaking learning format that allows students to build career-advancing skills and knowledge they need, while setting their own pace.

Master of Education in Teaching and Learning (MEd)

Capella’s state-of-the-art, online Master of Education in Teaching and Learning program is designed around the latest teaching practices, including brain-based learning and growth mindsets, to help meet the needs of teachers today. With the opportunity to now earn a master’s degree through Capella’s self-paced FlexPath format, teachers can personalize their learning and customize a schedule to fit their life. They also can leverage real-world experience and prior knowledge to move faster through material with which they have some familiarity and slow down when it is newer, all while immediately applying what has been learned to their classrooms. The MEd is Capella’s first program to implement the next generation of FlexPath which offers improved flexibility and further enriches the learning experience through technology.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

Select specializations in Capella’s CCNE*-accredited MSN program will now be offered through FlexPath to eliminate preset class times and deadlines, allowing for a flexible schedule to accommodate a busy lifestyle. This will enable experienced nurses to leverage existing knowledge and skills to move faster through familiar material so they can devote more time to content that is newer to them. For those looking to further their nursing career with an MSN or RN-to-BSN/MSN Combined Option, Capella will offer FlexPath in two specializations: Nursing Leadership and Administration and Nursing Education.

“Adult learners have families, jobs, and everyday responsibilities outside of the classroom,” said Capella University President and Chief Academic Officer Richard Senese, PhD. “That’s why it’s important for us to continue to expand the number of programs available through FlexPath, giving them access to a high-quality learning experience that has greater flexibility and ability to adapt to meet their needs.”

As is the case with all FlexPath programs, Capella has received approval from the Higher Learning Commission to decouple from the credit hour, which allows students to progress through their courses as they demonstrate competencies to the faculty through rigorous, authentic assessments of their knowledge, skills, and abilities. The next step is to seek approval by the U.S. Department of Education to offer federal financial aid for the new offerings described above.
