9 Texas schools close due to influenza outbreaks

Nine schools across Texas closed for one day or longer in February due to influenza outbreaks, according to a report from San Antonio Express-News.

Kerr County-based Hunt Independent School District closed its only facility recently after more than 50 students came down with the flu.

Bandera County-based Medina Independent School District, which serves 300 students, shut down its facilities Feb. 10 and remained closed Monday due to an influenza outbreak.

"We're losing too many kids to the flu," Andy Lautzenheiser, Medina school board president, told the Express-News Friday. He estimated 15 students were out sick but could not provide an exact number. "It was getting to be quite a few."
