18 Michigan hospitals with the cleanest rooms, as reported by patients

The following is a list of hospitals in Michigan for which 79 percent or more of patients reported that their room and bathroom were "always" clean on their HCAHPS surveys.

Data were pulled from CMS' Hospital Compare and is from January 2014 through December 2014, the most recent data available.

For reference, Michigan's average rate for patients reporting their room and bathroom were "always" clean is 69 percent. The national average rate for patients reporting their room and bathroom were "always" clean was 74 percent.

Note: Hospitals with insufficient data, such as having fewer than 100 completed surveys, were excluded.

1. Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital (Manistique) — 90 percent

2. Baraga County Memorial Hospital (L'Anse) — 90 percent

3. Scheurer Hospital (Pigeon) — 86 percent

4. Bell Hospital (Ishpeming) — 84 percent

5. Spectrum Health Zeeland (Mich.) Community Hospital —83 percent

6. Spectum Health United Memorial-United Campus (Greenville) — 83 percent

7. Lakeland Community Hospital, Watervliet (Mich.) — 83 percent

8. Portage Health (Hancock) — 83 percent

9. St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea (Mich.) — 83 percent

10. Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital (Dowagiac) — 82 percent

11. Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital (Laurium) — 82 percent    

12. Marlette (Mich.) Regional Hospital — 82 percent
