10 Organizations Receive Grants to Study Medical Errors

Ten healthcare organizations have been awarded grants to study medical errors as part of Medline's Prevention Above All Discovery Grants Program.

Now in its third year, Medline has provided more than $1.6 million in grant funding to frontline healthcare workers researching evidence-based solutions and interventions that CMS has declared as preventable, including pressure ulcers, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia and others.

Medline's 2011 Prevention Above All Discoveries Grant recipients are:

1. Ohio State University Hospital: Quick Room Turnaround Time Ultraviolet Light Disinfection for Decreasing HAI

2. University of Iowa Hospital: Sensor Technology for Tracking and Displaying Bed Elevation Data for Mechanically Ventilated Patients

3. Good Samaritan Hospital: Testing Patient Education Handbooks

4. Abbotsford Regional Hospital: Using GRASP as Home Treatment for Upper Extremity Paresis Post-Stroke

 



5. Cambridge Health Alliance Harvard Medical Center: A Standardized Process of Preoperative Body Cleansing with Comfort Bath Cleansing Washcloths Compared to Sage 2 Percent Chlorhexidine Gluconate Cloths to Reduce Prosthetic Joint Infections at Cambridge Hospital

6. Provena St. Joseph Medical Center: Falls Risk Assessment Study

7. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes Jewish Hospital: Incidence of falls among oncology patients who are cared for by family caregivers within their home

8. Foundation for Quality Care: Warfarin Safety Pilot Program

9. Wellstar Health System: The Effectiveness of Team Training on Fall Reduction

10. Kaweah Delta Development Foundation: Recognizing early and rapidly treating potentially at-risk floor patients with an enhanced rapid response system
