How health systems can improve adult immunization rates

Alia Paavola -

As the healthcare industry shifts to value-based reimbursement models, timely intervention and preventive care strategies have surged to the forefront of discussion.

Many hospitals are implementing adult immunization initiatives as part of a cost-effective preventive care strategy. If executed properly, adult immunization initiatives have the potential to improve outcomes for vulnerable patient populations.

During an Aug. 31 webinar sponsored by the Immunization Action Coalition and the National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit, John Bulger, DO, CMO for population health at Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System and CMO of Geisinger Health Plan; Scott Nygaard, MD, CMO and chief clinical integration officer of Fort Myer's, Fla.-based Lee Health; and Jeffrey Silvers, MD, medical director of quality, infection control and pharmacy at Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health, will discuss how health systems can overcome some of the challenges of implementing adult immunization initiatives.

The panel of experts will discuss how to get involved with adult immunization advocates, such as medical associations and public health departments, how to use data to conduct population-level assessments to determine where vaccine coverage can be improved and how to form multidisciplinary teams to advocate for adult immunizations.
