UnitedHealth projects 2016 revenue: 4 things to know

Less than two weeks after UnitedHealth Group, one of the nation's largest payers, announced it would likely depart from selling health plans on the federal exchange, it released estimates for revenue next year.

Here are four things to know about the company's outlook.

1. The payer projected 2016 revenues between $180 billion and $181 billion. According to The Wall Street Journal, this is just short of the average analyst estimate from Thomson Reuters of $182.36 billion.

2. UnitedHealth affirmed its projections for 2015 net earnings of $6.00 per share and 2016 net earnings of $7.10 to $7.30 per share.

3. The company estimates 2016 cash flows from operations to range from $9.5 billion to $10 billion.

4. In late November, UnitedHealth cut its profit forecast due to expected losses on plans sold on the Affordable Care Act exchanges in 2015 and 2016. At this time, it lowered its estimate of 2015 earnings to $6.00 from a range of $6.25 to $6.35.
