United Health Foundation awards $900k telehealth grant

United Health Foundation, a foundation affiliated with UnitedHealth Group, has awarded $900,000 to the Tennessee Primary Care Association to help support Tennessee Quality Connect, a program that connects healthcare professionals and patients through community health centers using telehealth technology.

The grant, which was awarded April 9, will help TPCA expand its work with these community health centers in delivering comprehensive care for patients, especially those living in remote areas, with hypertension, diabetes, obesity or depression, TPCA CEO Kathy Wood-Dobbins said in a statement.

The program will ultimately connect 17 community health centers to behavioral health experts and registered dietitians, according to The Tennessean.

According to the report, TPCA is working on a final contract with a group of registered dietitians and is still seeking behavioral health experts to participate in the program. Grant monies will be awarded from 2015 to 2017.
