The uninsured rate dropped to 11.7 percent in the first half of 2015, down from 17.3 percent in 2013, according to The Hill.
Here are four things to know about the uninsured rate across the U.S.
1. States that expanded Medicaid and established their own health insurance marketplace saw greater decreases in uninsured rates, according to a Gallup poll. The uninsured rate fell 7.1 points in the 22 states that did both. Rates fell 5.3 points in the 28 states that did neither.
2. Seven of the 10 states with the largest drop in uninsured rates — including Arkansas and Kentucky — expanded Medicaid and currently help run their marketplace.
3. Arkansas' rates fell to 9.1 percent from 22.5 percent in 2013, while Kentucky's rates fell to 9.0 percent from 20.4 in the same timeframe. Oregon, Rhode Island and Washington state also experienced decreases of 10 percentage points or more.
4. As of July 20, 31 states (including Washington, D.C.) have expanded Medicaid, but several states have not. However, a few Republican-led states have done so but required consumers to pay premiums.
