Uber rolls out ACA enrollment campaign for workers

Uber is making efforts to help its contract workers sign up for health coverage under the ACA, according to Reuters.

The company plans to hold events for drivers beginning Friday where they can get help enrolling in ACA health plans, the report states. Events are planned for nearly 30 U.S. cities.

According to Reuters, the initiative expands on Uber's partnership with health consultant startup Stride Health and is part of an overall goal to better serve drivers.

Meghan Joyce, Uber's regional general manager of the United States and Canada, told the publication many of their drivers have expressed interested in purchasing healthcare coverage through the company. Nearly 150,000 Uber drivers searched for insurance plans through Stride Health last year, a majority of which ended up purchasing plans. "This year we're doubling down on that," she added.

Uber is launching its campaign after President Donald Trump's administration cut the ACA's advertising budget by 90 percent. The ACA enrollment period, which is now open, is shorter this year than in years past, lasting from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15.
