Salem Health and United Healthcare to renew contract

Salem Health (Ore.) and United Healthcare have renewed their contract, according to a Statesman Journal article.

The contract was set to expire on June 30, but was re-signed Friday afternoon, according to Salem Health spokeswoman Sherryll Hoar.

The renewal comes after United Healthcare policyholders received letters citing difficulties in negotiations and indicating Salem Health could lose preferred-provider status.

Salem Health and United Healthcare both said disagreements were partially caused by how much Salem Health should be paid for services.

Salem Health's contract with Regence BlueCross BlueShield is also set to expire on June 23. Ms. Hoar said Salem and Regence hope to negotiate a renewal of the contract soon.
