Premiums for individual unsubsidized ACA health plans up 22% since last year

The average individual health insurance premium for those ineligible for subsidies under the ACA was $393, a year-over-year increase of 22 percent, according to an eHealth report.

EHealth, a private online health insurance exchange, analyzed individual and family health insurance premiums and deductibles for plans selected through the eHealth exchange during the first two months of open enrollment, from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31. The exchange aggregated and anonymized premiums and deductibles for consumers not receiving financial assistance for their health plan.

EHealth's Health Insurance Price Index reports have tracked costs and trends in the individual health insurance market since 2014, according to the company's release.

Here are four findings from the report.

2. The average family premium for people not receiving ACA health plan subsidies was $1,021, a year-over-year increase of 23 percent.

3. The average family plan premium for 2017 was $188 higher than the average family plan premium of $833 for open enrollment 2016.
