Musicians rally during HHS 'day of action' to defend ACA

HHS launched a "day of action" campaign Jan. 12 for artists to share how the ACA affected them amid Congress' efforts to quickly repeal and replace the health law.

Artists from music groups like Mountain Goats, Lambchop, Spoon and Superchunk, as well as and the indie rock label Merge Records and the Future of Music Coalition signed up to participate in the day of action.

HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell said the ACA helps musicians, artists, independent entrepreneurs and the self-employed make a living and gain health insurance. "You don't have to do something you might not want to have to do just to get health coverage," she told Pitchfork.

The Artists Day of Action is part of HHS' broader #CoverageMatters campaign. The goal of the campaign is humanize conversations about the ACA through shared personal anecdotes.
