Health insurers in the news: Week in review September 3-9

1. New York Blues plan reports cyberattack affecting 10M
Computers at Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, based in Rochester, N.Y., fell victim to a cyberattack that may have compromised more than 10 million personal records.

2. Humana, North Shore-LIJ to coordinate care for 1k Medicare Advantage members
Humana and Great Neck, N.Y.-based North Shore-LIJ Health System announced an agreement to launch a value-based collaboration to improve quality and reduce costs by coordinating care for more than 1,000 Medicare Advantage members in New York City and Long Island, N.Y.

3. Physicians, hospitals begin Washington battle over health insurer mega-mergers
Representatives from the American Medical Association and American Hospital Association are expected to appear before a U.S. Senate antitrust panel, calling on Congress to vigorously examine the proposed Anthem-Cigna and Aetna-Humana deals, according to a Forbes report.

The AMA released its latest analysis of competition in health insurance markets in all states and Washington, D.C.

5. AMA: Insurer mergers would hurt competition in 154 metro areas
The AMA released a study finding the proposed Anthem-Cigna and Aetna-Humana mergers could lessen competition in up to 154 metropolitan areas across 23 states.

6. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia opens new facility
Atlanta-based Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia opened a new facility in Columbus Sept. 2, according to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.
