Federal exchange premium increases surpass Covered California hikes

California's state ACA marketplace will on average see lower premium increases than the federal exchanges, which are set to rise by an average of 25 percent for next year, reports California Healthline.

Covered California consumers will face an average 13.2 percent rate hike next year. The lower premium hike mirrors other state-based marketplaces. According to HHS data, premium hikes on Connecticut's state-based marketplace will increase by 17 percent next year and Massachusetts' will decrease by 3 percent.  

The highest premium hikes for plans sold on the federal exchange, HealthCare.gov, topped 116 percent in Arizona, followed by 69 percent in Oklahoma. The highest premium increase on a state-based marketplace was Minnesota's 59 percent hike.
