CMS green lights BCBS of Michigan's home model for Medicare Quality Payment Program

Detroit-based Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan gained CMS approval for its Patient-Centered Medical Home model to receive merit-based payments under the Medicare Quality Payment Program, reports TV 6.

The model shifts physician reimbursements to a value-based platform. BCBS of Michigan's PCMH model met quality guidelines requiring programs to have a personal clinician in a team-based practice, have a whole-person orientation, coordinate and integrate care, focus on quality and safety and increase healthcare access.

"This is a huge achievement for our PCMH model, and we have to thank the more than 20 medical associations and community groups that advocated on our behalf," said David Share, MD, senior vice president of BCBS of Michigan.

The payer's PCMH model has 4,534 physicians in 1,638 practices statewide, according to the report.
