Policyholders of Cigna health plans claimed the payer charged more than 10 times the actual price of some prescription medications, Bloomberg BNA reports.
In the Oct. 13 class action lawsuit, plaintiffs claimed the Bloomfield, Conn.-based insurer required pharmacies in network with Cigna to overcharge its members for prescription drugs. The complaint argued the insurer then pocketed the overpayments, in some cases Cigna keeping $18 for a prescription that cost the insurer $2 and the patient $20.
The allegations come a week after customers sued Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare over high prescription drug co-pays.
