Health insurer Cigna's CEO said Wednesday a meeting with President Barack Obama and other payer executives facing losses and uncertainty on Affordable Care Act health exchanges offered back-and-forth discussions, the Hartford Courant reports.
David Cordani, CEO of Bloomfield, Conn.-based Cigna, and insurer executives met with the president and other federal officials Monday to talk about how to increase public exchange enrollment and encourage returning consumers to shop around before enrolling. In addition, the president sent a letter Monday to every insurer offering plans on ACA exchanges highlighting the administration's efforts to address their concerns.
Mr. Cordani said the conversation was "good back and forth … relative to the state of the state, what's working, what's not working, what can we do together going forward," according to Bloomberg.
Mr. Cordani said the conversation took place behind closed doors and he could not go into further detail. Other present insurer executives included Humana CEO Bruce Broussard, Blue Cross Blue Shield CEO Andrew Dreyfus and FirstCare Health Plans CEO Darnell Dent.
