Butler Health System, Highmark forge new multiyear deal

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Butler (Pa.) Health System have finalized a multiyear contract, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times.

The financial terms and the exact number of years the deal have not been disclosed, according to the report.

The contract involves Butler Memorial Hospital and related services, such as its diagnostic centers, primary care physicians and specialty services.

"Highmark's new contract with Butler Health System achieves an important balance: reimbursing a local, community-based health system to provide quality care to our members, while also recognizing the need to maintain comprehensive and affordable health benefit programs for our members and customers in Butler County," said Tom Fitzpatrick, senior vice president of provider contracting and relations for Highmark, in a statement. "As healthcare costs continue to rise, we need to continue to work with all healthcare providers to reach mutually acceptable agreements that are in the community's best interests."
