Blue Cross Blue Shield sends 42,000 customers in North Carolina wrong renewal rates

Roughly 42,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield customers in North Carolina have received letters with incorrect rates, according The Charlotte Observer.

All of the customers who were quoted incorrect rates — some of which were more than 100 percent too high — had grandfathered Blue Advantage Plan A policies which typically only require a $15-co-pay, according to the report.

Officials from Blue Cross Blue Shield, North Carolina's largest health insurer, realized their error shortly there after when confused and frustrated customers began flooding call centers.

Whether costumers' frustrations with the error or confusion surrounding the actual rates of the exchange plan will impact midterm elections remains to be seen, according to the report.
