BCBS of Massachusetts to receive $40M in risk adjustment payments

Boston-based Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts will get an additional $40 million from competing insurers under the ACA's risk adjustment program for 2015, reports Boston Business Journal.

The risk adjustment program requires payers with healthy populations to issue payments to other insurers with less healthy populations to level the financial playing field.

BCBS of Massachusetts received $40.8 million in risk adjustment payments for 2015 in June and contested that amount. State officials told the insurer Monday they would grant the payer's request and issue the remaining $40 million in its risk adjustment payments for 2016, according to the report.
