Anthem plans Atlanta IT center with 1,000 hires

Indianapolis-based payer Anthem is eyeing an Atlanta-based IT center, possibly hiring more than 1,000 to staff the operation, Atlanta Business Chronicle reports.

In a move to invest in multiple technology hubs nationwide, Anthem's IT centers may resemble Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente's IT center model. Kaiser has a $20 million IT center in Atlanta and four more across the U.S. that service EHR systems, cybersecurity and consumer technologies, among other things.

Anthem's space in Atlanta's tallest skyscraper would allocate 40,000 square feet and three floors toward IT operations. While a lease has yet to be signed, the move would position Anthem in Georgia's growing health IT hub. More than 200 health IT companies employ roughly 16,000 in the state, according to the report.
