Aetna raises membership outlook, previews Q4 financial results

Health insurer Aetna has announced it expects its total medical membership for 2014 to be more than 23.4 million, up from 22.2 million members in 2013, according to an Investor's Business Daily report.

Aetna made its announcement regarding expected membership growth Jan. 13, and after the announcement Aetna stock "rose in strong volume," according to the report.

The health insurer also indicated earnings per share for 2014 will be at the upper end of a $6.60 to $6.70 range, with its revenue for last year being between $57 billion and $58 billion.

Aetna released its earnings guidance update one day after announcing it boosted pay for its lowest-wage employees to $16 an hour.

Aetna expects to report its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2014 Feb. 3.
