2 Georgia health systems to discontinue Medicare Advantage plan

Marietta, Ga.-based WellStar Health System and Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare are discontinuing their joint Medicare Advantage plan, according to the Associated Press.

The two systems decided to end the Medicare Advantage offering due to costs and membership challenges. The Medicare Advantage plan was unable to generate enough membership and premium revenue for long-term sustainability, according to the report.

The Piedmont and WellStar health plan will also end its offering for employees of the two systems at the end of the year. The only part of the two systems' health plan that will continue to function is the segment that offers coverage to employers, according to the report.
