Flooding forces Chicago area hospital to evacuate patients, shut down

Lake Forest (Ill.) Hospital, part of Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine, transferred 93 patients to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and other local facilities Wednesday evening after losing power due to flooding caused by storms.

Although power was restored to Lake Forest Hospital at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, the facility remained closed Thursday. Northwestern Medicine said water was standing in parts of the hospital and in medical office buildings on the hospital's campus.

"Our primary goal is to assure the safety of our patients and staff," said Northwestern Medicine.

Megan McCann, a spokeswoman for Northwestern Medicine, told the Chicago Tribune Thursday that she did not have any information on when the hospital would reopen.
