California hospital responds to tour bus crash that killed 13, injured 31

Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Calif., treated 14 patients involved in a tour bus crash Sunday that killed 13 and injured 31, Los Angeles Times reports.

The medical center brought in chaplains, social service workers and extended overtime to ensure there was sufficient staff to treat affected individuals. Bilingual hospital staff helped physicians talk with a number of Spanish-speaking patients, and other workers transported family members and provided them with meals.

Many patients suffered facial injuries requiring plastic surgery. By the end of Sunday, five patients remained stabilized in intensive care, with seven discharged.

The tour bus carrying more than three dozen people collided with a big rig early Sunday, according to the report.
