Burst pipe at Manchester VA Hospital causes severe flooding, appointment cancellations

Manchester (N.H.) VA Medical Center is experiencing severe water damage and flooding from a burst pipe, according to NH1.com.

The hospital announced early Wednesday that five floors of the hospital are damaged due to a mechanical pipe failure. Hospital officials are notifying patients with appointments in the damaged areas of cancellations, reported WMUR.

Medical services such as primary care, mental health and urgent care on the first and second floor have not been impacted.

The medical center is working with other hospitals in the area to ensure patients can receive proper treatment.

The severe flooding is one of several problems Manchester VA Medical Center is facing. On Saturday, The Boston Globe published a Spotlight Team report highlighting clinical quality and patient safety issues at the hospital, which were reportedly disclosed by 11 physicians and medical employees. Some of the complaints from staff included a fly-infested operating room, dirty equipment and patients who were ignored or mistreated.

The Department of Veteran Affairs launched a full review of the allegations Monday. Pending the outcome of the review, VA Secretary David Shulkin, MD, removed the director and chief of staff at the medical center.
