Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Centennial evacuates patients after water line damage

Officials evacuated more than two dozen patients from Frisco, Texas-based Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Centennial Wednesday after a water pipe burst, flooding the facility, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Fire rescue crews responded to the facility around 7:50 p.m., after reports of a burst water line in the facility. Officials promptly shut off the water to the facility after discovering water on the third floor leaking to the second and first floors, according to the report.

The Morning News reported the medical center also experienced electrical problems due to the water leak, resulting in intermittent power loss. Fire fighters determined operating the hospital's backup generator would be "a fire/electrical hazard" because of the flooding, leading medical center officials to evacuate the facility, according to the report.

Officials said most of the 27 evacuated patients were taken to other BS&W facilities nearby. It is unclear if they will return once the water damage and repairs to the facility are completed, according to the report.

Medical center officials reopened the facility's emergency room Thursday, according to the report. Ambulance traffic will continue to be diverted until further notice.
