Molina Healthcare's new texting app delivers medication reminders to patients

Long Beach, Calif.-based Molina Healthcare partnered with CareSpeak Communications to launch a text message application to help patients on medication properly adhere to their prescriptions, according to a Tuesday announcement.

The CareSpeak app allows providers to send personalized text message reminders to patients' cell phones to facilitate appropriate medication use. The app also allows providers to deliver encouragement and feedback to patients regarding their medication adherence. The system can be adopted to even the most complex dosing regimens and is available in both Spanish and English.

"Molina's mission is to provide quality health services to financially vulnerable families. Our members tend to be at greater risk for prescription medication errors and non-adherence," said Martha Molina Bernadett, MD, CIO of Molina Healthcare. "Digital technologies like the CareSpeak text messaging platform are affordable and scalable tools we can use in combination with our medication therapy management to better help our members manage their medications and avoid the unintended consequences of non-adherence."
