Massachusetts hospital to premiere movie on life of Boston Marathon bombing survivor

Boston-based Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is slated to premiere "Stronger," the movie about the life of Jeff Bauman, who survived the April 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, reports The Boston Globe.

Director David Gordon Green told the publication Spaulding, which treated more than 30 bombing victims, will premiere "Stronger" starring actor Jake Gyllenhaal Sept. 12. That's 10 days before the movie is scheduled to begin screening in theaters.

The Boston Globe reports "Stronger" is based on Mr. Bauman's book and addresses the events of the bombing, which took both of Mr. Bauman's legs. Mr. Bauman was at the marathon finish line to support his girlfriend at the time.

"It's the intimate architecture set within an epic framework," Mr. Green told the publication. "We're all familiar with the headlines, but this is particular to a relationship affected by the events of that day. When you get to know Jeff and Erin [Hurley, Mr. Bauman's then-girlfriend], and his family members, there's great drama and struggle and triumph and humor.

"For the audience, it's very valuable to see these characters in a relatable way."

He added in the report the real healthcare workers involved in Mr. Bauman's treatment, such as nurses, the surgeon, physical therapists and the prosthetic team, are part of the movie. The Sept. 12 premiere will take place in Spaulding's gym.
