Company offers $13.5M to turn closed hospital into hotel

For the past 10 months, San Pablo, Calif.-based Doctors Medical Center has been vacant. But a recent proposal could help bring it back to life — as a hotel, according to NBC Bay Area.

Hotel operator Royal Guest Hotels has made an offer of $13.5 million for the property, according to Eric Zell, West Contra Healthcare District board chairman.

"We had a preference to sell it to some kind of healthcare center, but no healthcare option was put before us," said Mr. Zell, according to the report.

San Pablo Mayor Rich Kinney believes a hotel complex would be beneficial to the community. "We all know hotels bring jobs and there's always a lack of hotels in our area," he said.

However, a deal has not been confirmed. According to officials, it can take up to four months before the deal is finalized.
