Chris Van Gorder, Scripps Health CEO, Wins Press Ganey's 2013 Innovation Award

Press Ganey has announced San Diego, Calif.-based Scripps Health president and CEO Chris Van Gorder is the 2013 winner of the company's Innovation Award.

The award recognizes individuals who have led remarkable patient experience improvement initiatives at their institutions, exemplifying an industrywide gold standard. The award was presented at Press Ganey's annual National Client Conference, the theme of which was "A Voice for Every Patient."

Since 2000, Mr. Van Gorder has led Scripps Health in building patient-centered care, overseeing best-practice implementation of care teams composed of patient navigators, medication therapy pharmacists and case managers to improve patient understanding at discharge. In his time at Scripps, the institution has consistently performed well in patient care and has placed highly in Press Ganey's hospital, medical practice and ambulatory surgery rankings, according to a news release.

"Chris Van Gorder's innovative work at Scripps exemplifies our vision of elevating the patient experience, and we could not be more pleased to award such a well-respected and accomplished leader," said Press Ganey CEO Patrick T. Ryan in a news release.
