White House Event Focuses on Improving Environmental Sustainability of Hospitals

The White House hosted an event today to address the Healthier Hospitals Initiative's progress on creating more environmentally sustainable hospitals while reducing operating costs.

Hospital administrators and policy experts discussed "greening America's hospitals" and the work of the Healthier Hospitals Initiative, a collaboration of more than 500 hospitals that aims to foster greater adoption of environmentally friendly practices in hospital settings.

Two panel discussions focused on how to foster a culture of environmental sustainability in hospitals, as well as how to transform the supply chain to make it more environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

The discussion highlighted linkages between environmental sustainability and economic profitability, from saving money on energy, waste and water bills to creating a healthier and safer environment for patients, according to a news release.
