Web Site Offers Price Comparisons for Virginia Medical Providers
A new Web site from Virginia Health Information will allow patients to see the prices for procedures at various locations of service, including ASCs and hospitals, according to a report in the Richmond Times-Dispatch.The price figures are based on information from eight health insurance companies and include the average "allowed amount," which is usually discounted from full charges, according to the report. Officials from VHI said the information would be valuable to patients who are uninsured or have high-deductible insurance plans.
Common procedures, such as colonoscopies for cancer screenings and knee arthroscopy, are included on the Web site.
Currently, pricing information is available only as a statewide average, but officials from VHI hope to soon break it down on a regional level, according to the report.
