U.S. Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Mayo Clinic Case on Residents' Pay

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case filed by the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota contesting a decision by the Treasury Department to levy Social Security taxes on medical residents, according to a report by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

The Treasury Department requires Social Security taxes to be withheld from residents' pay, but Mayo and U of M argue that the residents are students and should be exempt, as other students are, from this tax.
