UnitedHealthcare Pulls Back on Admissions Notification Policy Opposed by Hospitals
In a letter to the American Hospital Association, UnitedHealthcare said it would not impose a 50 percent penalty on hospitals that do not notify the insurer of admissions to hospitals within 24 hours, according to a report in AHA News Now.
The policy had been vehemently opposed by the AHA and several state hospital associations, which argued it did not advance clinical care coordination and was simply a form of administrative denial.
United still expects all hospitals to provide notification of an admission within 24 hours, according to the report.
