State Starts New Review of Rhode Island Health Systems' Proposed Merger
Rhode Island officials have begun reviewing a new merger application from Lifespan Corp. and Care New England Health System after a previous application lapsed, according to a report by Providence Business News.A previous application lapsed because the state and applicants couldn't agree on whether it was complete; if the current application is accepted, it would move on to public hearings.
Providence-based Lifespan runs five hospitals with a total of 1,155 beds and Care New England Health System, also based in Providence, has three hospitals with more than 600 beds.
