Citing improved finances, St. Louis-based SSM Health Care is moving forward with building two replacement hospitals that had been put on hold last spring, according to a release from SSM Health Care.

St. Mary's Good Samaritan - Mount Vernon (Ill.) will break ground in April 2010 on a $237 million, 134-bed replacement hospital.

A $200 million, 167-bed replacement of St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, Mo., will be designed in 2010, with construction beginning in 2012 and completed in 2014.

SSM's operating income reached $108.9 million for the first three quarters of 2009, up from $15.7 million from the same period in 2008.
