Sierra Vista Regional to Earn Level III Trauma Status

Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif., will gain Level III trauma status, effective March 1 through June 20, 2013, according to a report by The Tribune.

The hospital will add staff and equipment to prepare for the designation and is expected to treat 250 to 300 major trauma patients each year, according to the report.

San Luis Obispo County has been working to develop a trauma center since 2002, when it received a grant from the California Emergency Medical Services to develop a trauma treatment system. Sierra Vista submitted its plans for a center in 2010.
