Senate Passes Final Health Reform; One Last Vote in House Needed
By a vote of 56 to 43, the Senate passed changes in the health reform bill, which will now be returned to the House of Representatives for a final vote, according to a report by the New York Times.
A new House vote was needed because the bill was slightly changed from the version the House passed on Sunday. The Senate parliamentarian removed some provisions on educational grants, saying they violated budget reconciliation rules.
Meanwhile, more than 40 Republican amendments aimed at thwarting the reforms were defeated in the Senate vote.
